In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the quest titled A Trip Through History offers players an engaging way to explore the Ring Ruins scattered around Kakariko Village. Initiated by talking to a tourist named Bugut, this side quest tasks Link with finding four accessible Ring Ruins and reading the research notes placed near each stone slab. Understanding how to navigate the terrain and access these locations is essential for completing the quest efficiently and discovering fascinating ancient lore.
Starting the Quest in Kakariko Village
To begin your journey, head to Kakariko Village and locate Bugut, an NPC usually wandering near the main pathway between the Ring Garland stall and the general store. Bugut is eager to learn about the inscriptions inside the fallen Ring Ruins but is hesitant to climb up to reach them. Speaking with him registers the quest and sends Link off to investigate the research notebooks located at each site.
Finding the Four Ring Ruin Locations
The four accessible Ring Ruins are situated in different quadrants around Kakariko Village, each presenting a slightly different navigation task. The eastern ruin is easily reached by taking the path up the hill, while the southern ruin requires clearing out a camp of enemy Bokoblins before entering. For the western ruin, you will ascend scaffolding where an NPC is found resting near the research table. The fourth ruin sits on a cliff face to the north, reachable by gliding across wooden walkways built around the rock formation.
Reading the Research Notebooks
Unlike other quests that require deciphering ancient Hyrulian text yourself, the research for this quest has already been translated by the survey team. At each ruin location, approach the desk situated next to the giant stone slab and interact with the open notebook. Reading the notes in all four ruins fulfills the research requirements needed to update your quest log.
Claiming Your Rewards
Once you have examined the translations at all four locations, return to Bugut in Kakariko Village to share your findings. In appreciation for your assistance, Bugut rewards Link with three Thunderwing Butterflies, which can be crafted into electrical resistance elixirs. Completing this quest provides helpful story insights while allowing players to smoothly transition into subsequent Ring Ruin explorations.
